Buying a home is probably the biggest purchase you'll make, and you don't have to navigate it with just a mortgage broker. Here's who else is usually on the team, and what they do.

Real estate agent

Helps you find the right home, writes your offer, negotiates on your behalf, and coordinates the home inspection.

Lawyer or notary

Protects your legal interests and handles the paperwork to transfer title into your name.

Home inspector

Assesses the property's condition and flags anything that's not functioning properly, needs replacing, or is unsafe.

Insurance agent or broker

Arranges the property insurance your lender requires, since your home is their security for the loan.

Appraiser

Provides an independent estimate of the property's value, which helps confirm you're not overpaying and is often required by your lender.
