Understanding Your Credit Score
What shapes your score, what's in your report, and how to improve it.
Updated for 2026
Your credit score is a three-digit number, 300 to 900, that tells lenders how much of a risk you are. The higher it is, the more favourably lenders — and their rates — tend to treat you.
What affects your score
- How long you've had credit
- Your payment history
- How much debt you're carrying
- Recent credit inquiries, and any bankruptcy or collections
